Building Bridges in Agriculture

Jan Plagge, the President of IFOAM Organics Europe, is passionate about building bridges in the agricultural community. He understands the critical need to balance nature conservation with the economic realities faced by farmers, insights that emerged from a recent strategic discussion.

Joining EBAF

In exciting news, IFOAM Organics Europe has officially joined the European Board on Agriculture and Food (EBAF). Plagge will lend his voice to this esteemed board, bringing a wealth of experience in organic agriculture to the table. Since 2011, he has led Bioland, an association that promotes organic farming in Germany and Italy. He has also been at the helm of IFOAM Organics Europe since 2018, now serving his third term. Plagge’s journey into organic farming began back in 1992, when he transformed his family’s farm in Lower Saxony to embrace organic practices. Over the past 15 years, he has provided invaluable advisory and training services in this field.

Addressing Agricultural Challenges

Plagge stressed the urgency of current agricultural challenges. His remarks highlighted a pressing need: food production must align with ecological boundaries, all while ensuring that farmers’ financial well-being is prioritized.
