Investment in State-of-the-Art Facility

In a bold move to establish itself as the leading manufacturer in Europe, HealthTech BioActives (HTBA) has made a significant €25 million investment in its facility in Murcia, Spain. This development marks HTBA as the only European company capable of producing all active forms of vitamin B12.

The investment culminated in the opening of a state-of-the-art production plant on January 28, along with enhancements to the existing unit for citrus flavonoid production. This extensive upgrade is not just about increasing capacity; it represents a transformative step in HTBA’s patented production process for diosmin, a compound recognized for promoting blood circulation and easing vascular discomfort. Interestingly, HTBA claims a pioneering approach—utilizing water instead of traditional artificial solvents in its manufacturing process.

Focus on Sustainability

Sustainability was a key focus in the design of the upgraded facility. It harnesses renewable energy and employs cutting-edge technology, making it remarkably efficient in terms of resources. Impressively, the new plant can recover, recycle, or repurpose 98% of its generated waste.

Addressing Nutritional Needs

Vitamin B12 plays a vital role in nutrition, yet many diets today struggle to provide adequate levels, largely due to soil depletion. To address this issue, farm animals often receive B12 supplements, ensuring the nutrient finds its way into animal products. Meanwhile, those following plant-based diets are strongly advised to supplement their intake to prevent deficiencies. Recent innovations have also led to the discovery of more efficient B12 production methods, including the use of vegan sources like algae and duckweed.

Alexandre Valls-Coma, CEO of HTBA, highlighted the company’s longstanding expertise in citrus flavonoids and vitamin B12, which spans over 45 years. He expressed pride in this innovative project, viewing it as a significant milestone for HTBA and a testament to its unwavering commitment to producing high-quality, environmentally friendly products for a global market. With this impressive investment, HTBA is set to strengthen its position in the production of active vitamin B12 and citrus flavonoids while upholding rigorous standards for sustainability and innovation.
